The World Cup wives and girlfriends will be making more than their fair share of World Cup headlines this summer heres how to chase their look
The whistles about to blow on the opening games of the 2010 World Cup with all eyes on the England squad and their WAGs.
And since browsing for clothes, shoes and bags has evolved into a new team sport (for the girls at least), its a foregone conclusion that the WAGs jetting off to join their partners in South Africa will undoubtedly be sampling plenty of sun and shopping along the way.
Celebs like Coleen Rooney just adore flexing their credit cards to sweep up any of top designer gear that catches their eye, not to mention the lenses of the paparazzi.
Designer labels coveted by WAGs are the elite fashion names of the moment. Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, Chlo, Missoni, Stella McCartney and Lanvin spring to mind here.
The aim is to look effortlessly cool and iconic and wearing fabulous fabrics, the latest shapes, e.g. power shoulders in the style of Victoria Beckham, and spending bundles of money, all go a long, long way to creating the right image for the right occasion.
WAG arm candy tends to veer from oversized and slouchy bags through to neat satchels and chic clutches, some of the designs costing eye-watering amounts of cash.
Following on from bags, and possibly joint first in the accessory stakes, are shoes. Skyscraper heels, of anything between five and seven inches high and pretty pumps are as important to these passionate fashionistas as the boots their men wear on the pitch.
Add plenty of bling and oversized sunglasses and the WAG uniform is complete.
Dresses fall into defined categories depending on the individual and vary from very short, very tight and definitely very revealing to fun and flirty, and hippy, maxi styles. Coleen does both. Vibrant colours, prints, dazzling white (obviously to show off tanned bodies to perfection) and the seasons latest nude tones are among the most popular choices in the present shade palette.
On the fabric front, linen, leather, silk, denim and crispy cotton are among the ber cool fabrics to be seen in on the soccer circuit.
Few of us can afford to blow vast amounts of cash on serious designer labels. However, if youre so inclined, there are plenty of less expensive brands around to create a winning celebrity-style image of your own this summer.
