Annual meeting celebrates another successful year

Shropshire Horticultural Society held its Annual General Meeting in the Council Chamber of the Shirehall, attended by officials of the Society and by Councillor Anne Chebsey, Mayor of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council. The Society reported on its financial position, and the many charitable donations made during 2008.The Society's treasurer, Ann Tudor, said that even in the current difficult economic circumstances the Society's financial situation was secure. The new President of the SHS will be Lord Kingsland - Sir Christopher Prout, and the new Chairman is Lt Col (Ret'd) Michael Carver.
Support by commercial sponsors during 2008 was recognised and prior to the meeting Neville Boulds, Finance Director of Alan Ward and Steve Rowson, General Sales Manager of the Greenhous Group, Shrewsbury were personally thanked by Harry Wilson, Vice Chairman of the Society.
Managing Director Alan Hopkins said: "Alan Ward has a long association with Shrewsbury and even though we have expanded outside the county with stores in Chester, Winsford and Newcastle-Under-Lyme, we were delighted to get involved as headline sponsors for the 2008 Flower Show. It was a tremendous show, despite the bad weather on the Saturday, and it was obvious that a lot of hard work had been put in by the organisers to make it a success for both the sponsors and visitors."
Derek Passant, Joint Chief Executive of the Greenhous Group said: As a leading car and commercial business with a valued brand image and as an organisation which has been established in Shrewsbury for over 80 years, Greenhous is proud and pleased to have been able to enjoy being associated with the Shropshire Horticultural Society and to support the Shrewsbury Flower Show.
This year's Show is on August 14 and 15.
